Beowulf (D: Robert Zemeckis, 114 min)
Ray Winstone is probably best known as the bungling gangster in the neo-noir thriller Sexy Beast. Now he gets to sport some pretty sexy abs — albeit digitally created — in this CGI version of the Old English adventure epic. The previews look pretty stunning, and they wisely play up Angelina Jolie slinking around in the water as monster Grendel’s mom. (Hmm, wonder if she adopted him….)
The film has good pre-buzz, especially since fantasy ace Neil Gaiman and overlooked Pulp Fiction co-writer Roger Avary are onboard as the writers.
