BILLY BRAGG

Rating: NN

Billy Bragg’s studio return finds him in his comfort zone provided by the Blokes and producer Grant Showbiz under yet another title copped from novelist Colin MacInnes. Absolute Beginners had already been taken, and apparently Loving Them Both: A Study Of Bisexuality didn’t have the right ring to it, so Mr. Love & Justice would have to suffice.

You’re probably thinking that with the world in turmoil and the U.S. involved in the run-up to a hugely important presidential election, the timing is perfect for a Billy Bragg album filled with political finger-pointing and rabble-rousing vitriol, right? Well, not according to our man, who just wants to fill the world with silly love songs and one about having a swell time at the beach. Yeah, you tell ’em, Bill… all about the sun and the sand.
