BLONDE REDHEAD

Rating: NNN Rating: NNN

Even if their lyrics weren’t delivered in three different languages, the surprisingly catchy out-rock ditties on Blonde Redhead’s new Mélodie Citronique EP would be pleasant enough.

To spice things up, though, the threesome went for international appeal, translating a few songs from their recent Melody Of Certain Lemons into Italian and French and tossing in a Serge Gainsbourg cover and a Third Eye Foundation remix as bonus cuts. Blonde Redhead’s music has always had an unsettling quality, but the translated vocals actually smooth things out somewhat. The Box aside, perhaps, French rock has never sounded this smooth. Blonde Redhead hit Lee’s Palace Wednesday (November 15).
