Blur

Rating: NNNN

You don’t have to be a Blur fan to enjoy this documentary about the 90s Britpop leaders’ rise and fall, filmed during their reunion tour last year and culminating in the uplifting concert in Hyde Park that makes up the second disc.

Revealing interviews, archival material and live footage weave together to construct an engrossing tale about the fractured and eventually mended friendships between the pioneering band’s four members, particularly guitarist Graham Coxon and vocalist Damon Albarn.

While there aren’t any big surprises, Coxon’s honest insights into his substance abuse problems, Albarn’s grave commentary on those tumultuous years and an emotional yet celebratory rendition of Tender at the doc’s end make this totally worthwhile.
