The 2024 Canadian Screen Awards nominations are in, and one film has broken a record! Here’s the full breakdown

Nominations are in for the 2024 Canadian Screen Awards! 

The movie BlackBerry, which follows the rise and fall of the world’s first smartphone, is making history after receiving the most film nominations in the history of the Canadian Screen Awards. 

The film was nominated 17 times in categories including Best Motion Picture, Achievement in Direction, and Performance in a Leading Role, Comedy for Jay Baruchel.

Staying in the film category, Ariane Louis-Seize’s vampire-drama Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person received 12 nods, while Brandon Cronenberg’s science fiction flick Infinity Pool secured 11.

Other highlights include the Crave Original limited drama series Litte Bird, which follows the story of a woman impacted by the Sixties Scoop, leading both the television and overall 2024 Canadian Screen Award nominations by securing a whopping 19 nominations. 

Two CBC comedy series follow close behind. The final season of the Toronto-based queer sitcom Sort Of received 18 nominations, while the last season of the comedy Workin’ Moms earned 12 nominations.

When it comes to digital media awards, comedy web series The Drop and How to Fail as a Popstar, based on the story of Vivek Shraya, are leading the pack, each receiving five nominations. Queer comedy I Hate People, People Hate Me and Alberta-based drama Streams Flow From A River follow close behind, with four nominations respectively.

During Canadian Screen Week, the awards will be presented to winners in a series of award shows hosted at the CBC Broadcast Centre over four days, culminating with the Canadian Screen Awards broadcast show. 

The show is set to air on Friday, May 31, hosted by Canadian comedian and actor Mae Martin.
