Chris Rock

Rating: NNNN

Chris Rock’s recent film work shows he’s lost some of his edge. But the four shows these “greatest bits” are culled from are all hysterical, and Cheese And Crackers is razor-sharp gold.

All your favourite Rockisms are here. Nineties hot-buttons like OJ and affirmative action have aged well, since much of his comedy is in his phrasing and hoarsely belted delivery. His relationship riffs are timeless enough, and Defending Rap, from Never Scared, is more relevant than ever.

For Rock, this is just a Christmas bonus, with a low-budget cover. But in terms of collecting his best – mission accomplished.
