Christel Bartelse

Rating: NNNNN

Who: Christel Bartelse, actor/clown

Where: On break from rehearsal, outside Equity Showcase Theatre on Dufferin near Dundas

When: Saturday afternoon

Clothing: “I got my shirt from Risque ($55, 404 Bloor West, 416-960-3325). I always go there first if I need something new. My blazer is from a clothing store in Kitchener (my hometown). My friend Goshia runs the shop. She brings in clothes from Europe and sells them at amazing prices. It’s the first suit jacket I’ve bought – good for auditions. I received my scarf as a gift for Christmas from my friend Sarah. She bought it from someone at her work, who picked up a bunch of them on a trip to India. They’re now available in Canada through H&G Imports (416-287-1760). I got my jacket for $50 in Kensington Market while I was supposed to be shopping for costumes with Christina (Sicoli, my best friend and comedy partner from our duo, the Burnt Marshmallows). The belt is from Aldo ($65, 50 Bloor West, 416-921-9763). I always wear a belt, and feel naked without one. I just got my jeans last week, on sale for $80 at Aritzia (280 Queen West, 416-977-9919, and others). This pair of black boots comes from the Shoe Company ($80, 711 Yonge, 416-923-4038) – they were a birthday gift to myself. I love black boots, and the taller the heel the better. The earrings are from H&M (1 Dundas West, 416-623-4300, and others). They were only $5, but who would ever know? I get a lot of compliments on them. My mom bought me my mitts from a boutique in Montreal. My clown nose, which I’ve been wearing all month around my neck, is from Malabar (14 McCaul, 416-598-2581). It actually has a specific size this one is BS1. It cost me around $28. The hat is from Trove (793 Bathurst, 416-516-1258). They have amazing handbags and accessories.”

Hair: “Cut by awesome Janine at Fiorio (108A Cumberland, 416-964-5737). I always love how she styles it.”

My Style: “Honestly, the past four weeks I’ve been living in sweats during rehearsals and feel I’ve completely lost my sense of style. Feels great to actually put on a pair of jeans. Call it trendy/casual.”

Coming up: “I’m in rehearsals for The Hollow, a clown play directed by Michael Kennard running at the Berkeley Street Theatre. Previews start Friday (March 11) and the big opening is Wednesday (March 16). I’m playing Tifulbeau.”
