It would be really nice if Debbie Harry’s first solo album in more than a decade were the comeback we’d hope for.
Unfortunately, production team Super Buddha have churned out some of the most forgettable backing tracks in recent memory, sounding cheaper than the average modern bedroom recording (and not in a good way).
The songwriting isn’t amazing, but it could have been saved by more imaginative music and sounds. Toward the second half, things get weirder and more interesting, especially when other producers and songwriters get a chance to lead.
It’s not what anyone is hoping for from Harry, but the highlights are decent enough to keep hardcore Blondie fans satiated until she finds some collaborators worthy of her talent.
