An Ontario aquatic centre is temporarily closed after a deer crashed into the facility and jumped into the pool.

At around 2:45 p.m. on Feb. 25, a deer crashed through a glass window at Vollmer Centre in the town of LaSalle, in Essex County.

The town says the deer came from Laurier Parkway and crashed through the window near the hot tub.

Francesco Siino caught the incident on camera and posted it to TikTok.

“Yall wouldn’t believe me if I told you a deer broke into the vollmer centre in lasalle today,” he wrote in a caption.

The deer reportedly took a little swim before staff were able to coax it out the front doors of the building through the lobby area, the town’s director of culture and recreation, Patti Funaro, told CBC News.

At the time, a variety of children’s swimming lessons were happening and about 30 people were in the pool, Funaro added.

Staff believe the deer may have been injured by the glass when it entered the pool, based on a small amount of blood.

There were no reported injuries to staff or members of the public.

Funaro said public health guidelines were followed to increase the chlorine levels.

The pool was opened the following day by 4:30 p.m, according to the town. However, A swim participant stepped on a piece of glass at the bottom of the pool during a lesson Monday afternoon, resulting in the pool being closed until further notice.

“Although the pool had been vacuumed for several hours today, and has also been backwashed, it is difficult to see glass on the bottom of the pool. Staff are considering further maintenance options including the services of a scuba diver to scan the bottom of the pool,” the town said in a statement on Monday.

The town says all lessons are cancelled and a credit will be applied to each participant’s account.

Updates about the operation of the pool are expected to be posted on the town’s social media sites.
