Archetypal diva Diana Ross brings the tastefulness on I Love You, a collection of covers. Considering her range and repertoire, broad nü-Great American Songbook selections like The Look Of Love, Only You and You Are So Beautiful couldn’t have presented too much of a vocal challenge for the proto-Beyoncé. But they do possess a timeless, comfortable aura — no forced attempts to be hip by covering songs by My Chemical Romance or Young Jeezy. For the most part, the classy production provides a warm atmosphere for Ross’s nuanced delivery, best witnessed here on her graceful take on her contemporary Bill Withers’s Lovely Day.
