Double Take

DOUBLE TAKE 310 Gerrard East, 416-925-7198

By now, we’re all hip to the idea of fiscally responsible retail therapy. Double Take proves you can also be socially responsible on that frugal shopping trip. The used clothing store run by the Yonge Street Mission (ysm.on.ca) celebrates its 10th year of selling donated duds and providing employment and training for lower-income community members.

But we’re here to shop. Since Double Take is a bit off the beaten vintage-clothing-store path, it’s developed a reputation for great under-picked fashion finds. Retro Harry Rosen suits, Escada frocks, Brian Bailey jackets and Robin Kay knits can be found on the store’s rows of racks. Accessories and housewares add to the merchandise mix.

“The variety and quality of clothing and accessories we receive is amazing,” says Kathy Webster, who’s been managing Double Take for the past year. “And not only are shoppers getting a good bargain, they’re helping those in need.”
