DREAM WARRIORS

Rating: NNN

A decade on, you’ve got to give credit to the Dream Warriors for keeping at it and remaining relatively consistent. Every few years, the group return with a solid comeback disc that doesn’t exactly reclaim their past glories but also isn’t embarrassing. Still, you’ve got to wonder who’s listening. The Legacy Continues is another set of jazzy, loose-limbed hiphop that skips from beats and rhymes to UK garage, Swizz Beatz-style bumps and dancehall. King Lou still has his flow, and producer Capital Q can still surprise with his beats, but with another remix of My Definition tacked on for good measure, it’s hard not to see this as a glimpse of hiphop’s past rather than anything really contemporary. Old-school fans will be thrilled, but there’s nothing here to draw in newer listeners.
