Elton John

Rating: NN

Has anyone noticed that Sir Elton’s mined exactly the same maudlin melody since he kicked diet pills? Your Song, Candle In The Wind, Circle Of Life – they’re identical. For his latest opus, Britain’s Queen Bitch headed to a shack in Atlanta to reframe said melody with strings and a gospel choir. Fans will dig it, since it sounds no different from the rest of his catalogue, albeit with a couple new-country tweaks. I can’t take Elton singing about porch swings in Tupelo seriously, but on the sixth floor of a stunning condo in San Francisco, a well-heeled gay couple might be toasting their engagement with Merlot and Atkins-friendly haute cuisine to the soaring, saccharine strains of Peachtree Road.
