Emo Philips

Rating: NNNNN

Jay Leno calls Emo Philips the best joke writer in America. But until recently it was easy to lose sight of that fact because of Philips’s distracting pageboy haircut and high-pitched voice. As he brings his new look to Yuk Yuk’s Downtown Saturday (June 12) – the voice remains the same – pay attention to the surreal humour, which, if anything, has got sharper with time.

You have a new look. Have you been Queer Eyed?

No. I once had an enormous gay following, but I ducked into an alley and lost him.

If you, Carrot Top and Tom Green got into a wrestling match, who would win – and why?

I don’t know. But with Carrot and Green, there’s a salad joke in there somewhere.

Innie or outie?

Innie. Whyee?

Is your autobiography going to be called Finding Emo?

No. It’s too close to the title of the hit film Finding Forrester.

Who will play you in the film version?

I’d love it if Adrien Brody played me, but I don’t think he’d be into losing all that weight again.

S, M, L or XL?

Let’s just say it’s big enough to get me into trouble.

Advice for Michael Jackson?

Just keep spending the bucks to look like a sexless cartoon character.

Are comedy clubs a good place to pick up people?

Yes. When you get the girl back to your place you can strip knowing she’s all laughed out.
