If you see a satyr with goat horns nosing through the dumpster at the Honest Ed loading dock, don’t call the Humane Society. He’s just one of the characters in Euripides’ Cyclops.
Parodies that mocked the famous stories of Oedipus and Orestes, classical Greek satyr plays were staged after or between the period’s tragedies. Presented by Children of Wine, Cyclops, the only extant complete satyr play, recounts the wandering Odysseus’s adventures with the man-eating, one-eyed Cyclops.
Expect carousing, low humour and lots of drinking in this site-specific show. What better place to see it than near the Fringe Club and beer tent, since satyrs worship Dionysus, the god of wine, and encourage imbibing?
