Eva’s Original Chimneys is moving into the Annex

We had Thai rolled ice cream, Filipino sundaes and ludicrously large ice cream cones, but the chimney cone was probably the unofficial frosty treat of summer 2016. (We even put ’em on the cover of our Hot Summer Guide!) The best-known purveyor: Eva’s Original Chimneys, who traveled from festival to festival in their food truck, baking traditional Hungarian hand-rolled dough cones and piping them with real-cream soft-serve.

As of this November, you’ll be able to eat Eva’s year-round (good news for me, and other people who would happily eat a foot-tall soft serve cone in the dead of winter). A permanent Eva’s location is on the way in the Annex, at 454 Bloor West (formerly Menchella’s Gourmet Pizza). Eva’s co-owner Kristin Butler says the new spot will serve various flavours of the cones (including a new seasonal pumpkin pie version), plus hot and cold drinks, traditional versions of the chimney cakes and savoury items.

If you’ve got an idea for how to build/stuff/decorate a better chimney cone, Butler says, they’re giving away ice cream for life to the person with the best menu item idea. And don’t worry, festivalgoers – they’re still keeping the truck.
