the highfalutin title for the

Mayworks display at Another Story implies that this collaborative project by members of the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees Union local 75 might be more ambitious than it is.

This excellent Danforth bookseller’s usual windowfront selection of femme-friendly texts is interspersed with life-sized papier mache masks, lively cartoons and stained glass pieces — notably a hanging “banner” that reads “No More Lies!” (an accompanying stained glass union logo is out at the framer’s, even though the show has officially opened), which in fact has little to do with the stated project name.

“It was a working title,” explains Ann Clifford, who has been working with the union as a cultural animator, funded by a Cultural Democracy grant from the Laidlaw Foundation.

“We’re really working toward this fall’s Labour Day Parade.”
