Front St. Foods is back for the summer

Front St. Foods, an open-air market created to bring independent local food vendors to hungry downtown diners, made its debut last year in front of Union Station. Though it’s lamentably no longer in front of Union (leaving the under-construction terminal sadder and more snackless than ever), the market is making the most of its secluded new digs on the elevated patio of Adelaide Place (150 York, at Adelaide).

Among this year’s list of 20 vendors, you’ll see a few familiar faces from last year’s market – you can still get Little Fin‘s shrimp salad, Holy Chuck‘s burgers and the Mighty Cob‘s international array of seasoned corn, among other options.

But there’s plenty of new eats available, including a couple of bona fide food trends: Raclette Suisse’s food-coma-inducing melted cheese draped over sausages, potatoes and kale, as well as Thai-style rolled ice cream, which gets chopped up with your choice of toppings and scraped up to order over a super-cold metal surface.

Other new additions include Tacos 101, savoury and sweet dough swirls from Chimney Stax, sammies from Brock Sandwich and a beer garden that pours pints (at happy hour, they’re just $5), wine and sangria.
