A double tragedy: this is the last Futurama movie and it isn’t very good.

Some of the voices in the jokey group commentary gripe about the writers’ strike that hit during production. Or you can blame the pressure of producing four full-length features in two years. Either way, Into The Wild Green Yonder fails to live up to the standard of earlier entries like The Beast With A Billion Backs.
It’s still funny, but short on bizarre plot turns and inventive gags.
Amy’s dad is destroying the galaxy to build a giant miniature golf course. Leela joins the eco-feministas. Fry accidentally learns to read minds and infiltrates the baddies. Penn and Teller show up. Snoop Dogg plays a Supreme Court judge. Bender has a robot romance, and Zoidberg, Dr. Farnsworth and the rest don’t do much.
As usual, the Futurama crew is generous with the extras, delivering 11 featurettes in all, including a home movie with creator Matt Groening and developer David X. Cohen in zero gravity.
EXTRAS Group commentary, making-of docs and comic shorts. Widescreen. English, French, Spanish audio. English, French, Spanish Portuguese, Chinese subtitles.
