GHOSTFACE KILLAH

GHOSTFACE KILLAH Bulletproof Wallets (Epic) Rating: NN

Whereas Ghostface Killah’s last record, the baffling and brilliant Supreme Clientele, suggested a return to form for the Wu-Tang Clan, mixing abstract rhymes with a shuddering, Funkadelic-influenced soundtrack that would make OutKast envious, Bulletproof Wallets is just another Wu letdown. Ghost sputters about purple threads and cheese omelettes and gets Clansmen Raekwon, Method Man and RZA to phone in guest rhymes, but the lack of energy just draws attention to the underwhelming beats and boring rhymes. When your album’s most daring move is listing the song titles in the wrong order, it’s time to cash out.
