Music
This summer’s best concerts:
No need to leave town this summer – everybody’s coming to us. Major music festivals, including new-to-Toronto ones, are plentiful, as are concert thrills in every genre. Load up on sunscreen and earplugs.
Out of town concerts: Despite a number of out-of-town music festivals opting out this year – Owen Sound’s Mudtown Music & Arts Festival, Muskoka Sound Music Festival – there’s still plenty afoot. So roll up that sleeping bag and tent and head north, east, south or west to take in the mellifluous sounds of folk, rock, country and more.
Stage
This summer’s best dance: Perhaps it has something to do with being cooped up all winter, but summer brings out the need to see great dance – indoors or out, it doesn’t matter. Fortunately, there’s lots of moving stuff in store.
The best theatre of the season: There’s plenty of theatre to see in town during the summer months.
Stratford’s production of She Stoops To Conquer stars Lucy Peacock (left) and Maev Beaty.
Out of town theatre: Classics and classics-to-be highlight the summer festivals. Shaw and Stratford are the heavy hitters, but there’s fine work by other companies, including the Blyth Festival.
This summer’s best comedy: Who says summer isn’t comedy season?
Movies
The season’s best movies: Summer’s great, but eventually a body gets tired of picnics, patios and paddleboats.
Amy Schumer and Bill Hader in Trainwreck.
