THE CONCEPT: The IDS continues to open up more booth space on the Direct Energy Centre floor to indie designers who cut their trade-show teeth at Come Up To My Room and Radiant Dark. What sets it apart is an international angle, including appearances this year’s by French furniture designer Christophe Delcourt and Dutch architect Ben Van Berkel.

LOOK FOR: A whole lot of sparkle at Swarovski-crystal-covered installations by Canadian firms like Brothers Dressler and Munge Leung. DESIGNGENNEXT spotlights student work from Ryerson, OCAD and four other schools. Thirty-five Canadian design innovators, including Bookhou and Schoolyard, steal the show in the Studio North space.
