Jeff the Brotherhood – Global Chakra Rhythms

Dude. Jeff the Brotherhood’s Global Chakra Rhythms had a limited pre-order of handmade double LPs on trippy vinyl that came with a meditation kit. The album is a decent soundtrack for such cosmic activities, but its lack of focus, half-baked jams and self-indulgence don’t make it compelling for those in a sober state.

There aren’t many bright spots in the nearly 70 minutes, but it’s well produced and might be one of those albums you spin only when high – or meditating. Even then, most of it sounds like a bad trip.

Almost every track is over five minutes, but few warrant the patience needed to get through them. Radiating Fiber Plane eventually builds into a solid, dreamy, 90s guitar chug, and the epic Mary Of Silence is a doomed, druggy trek through Sabbath territory, but Liquid Onyx is directionless, and meandering.

The last few songs are solid, and ender Whatever I Want is a 70s slow-burner so damn good its presence is confusing. At eight minutes, it proves JTB can create a killer, dynamic super-trip, but it can’t redeem the shaky foundation it rests on.
