Fans of Alex Trebek are in mourning today with news that the popular game-show host has passed away.
The 80-year-old Sudbury, Ontario–born Jeopardy! quizmaster died early Sunday surrounded by family members after battling pancreatic cancer, the show said on Twitter.
He hosted Jeopardy! since 1984 and has the Guinness World Record for most game-show episodes hosted by the same presenter.
Trebek demonstrated remarkable courage and grace after being diagnosed with stage four cancer in 2019.
“Now normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging but I’m going to fight this,” he pledged.
He also quipped that he couldn’t die because at that time, he still had three years to go on his contract.
Before becoming the face of Jeopardy!, Trebek hosted Reach For The Top.
He and his wife Jean have supported donated to many educational causes over the years.
Earlier this year, Trebek gave $100,000 to a charity helping the homeless in North Hollywood after taking a tour of its facility.
