Kelli Fox wins 2016 Gina Wilkinson Prize

Toronto-based actor and director Kelli Fox, well known for her acting and more recently her directing, is the recipient of this years Gina Wilkinson Prize, awarded to a female theatre artist making the transition to directing from another theatre discipline.

Its a move that the late, talented Wilkinson herself made, and the $5,000 prize honours her commitment and spirit both in life and on the stage, where she worked as performer, director and playwright.

Highly respected as an actor, Fox is a regular at the Shaw Festival last summer she shone in Tony Kushners The Intelligent Homosexuals Guide… and Moss Harts Light Up The Sky.

Shes been helming more and more productions around the country, including Kitchen Radio at the Blyth Festival, The Drowning Girls and The Hound Of The Baskervilles at Reginas Globe Theatre and, in Toronto, This Wide Night at SummerWorks and, for Headstrong Collective, Boston Marriage and Man To Man.

But I doubt Fox will give up acting shes just too good for us not to see her onstage. Remember how mesmerizing she was in Nightwoods staging of The Penelopiad?

The shortlist for the 2016 award also included Kathleen Duborg, Sara-Jeanne Hosie and Nancy McAlear.
