KT TUNSTALL

Rating: NNN

When radio-friendly mega-hit Suddenly I See was just about everywhere, on shows like Ugly Betty and Grey’s Anatomy, vibrantly cute Scottish singer/songwriter KT Tunstall could’ve entered that dangerous faceless-hit territory where people know the song but not the singer.

On her second record, Drastic Fantastic, she appears to have a few more tricks up her sleeve. She’s done an impressive about-face, trading in quieter acoustic strums for retro-rock numbers like Funnyman that put her affinity for Fleetwood Mac front and centre.

The more introspective moments show songwriting potential that’s worth getting excited about, but at times the disc coasts along too comfortably to be truly remarkable. For the time being, it’s just really good, with the promise of better things to come.
