For the past six years Manifesto, a multi-day community and culture festival, has lured some of hip-hop’s finest, from Talib Kweli to Rakim, to bless the city – and co-opt its public spaces – for a free, final Sunday night throw down. This year the crew caps off the three-day fest on September 23 with a headlining performance at Yonge-Dundas Square by Pharoah Monche. BADBADNOTGOOD, our local, pint-sized, whiteboy version of The Roots – on track to becoming the city’s house band – will accompany the iconic New York rapper. Still, we hope when Monche does Simon Says, it’s the menacing, chest-thumping instrumental that fills the Square.
