Mario

Rating: NNN

Mario is 18 now, meaning he’s gone from being Just A Friend (the Biz Markie novelty rap hit he R&B-ized in 2002) to a “ghetto Kama Sutra” aficionado, or as he later clarifies, “a P.I.M.P.” with a knack for identifying that “shorty is a problem.” He ebbs and flows through the sophomore-album maturity model employed by every young artist from Avril to Britney, dealing with being done wrong and how he’s got to have her and blah blah blah. The record’s six-figure beats, provided by Scott Storch and Lil’ Jon (who has yet to recapture the magic of Yeah in this genre), are slicker than Aaron Neville’s cocoa butter, ensuring that Turning Point will be a perennial fave among BET’s 106th And Park fans.

Mario steps into Kool Haus tomorrow (Friday, February 25).
