Playwright Matthew MacKenzie first impressed Toronto Fringers with SIA, a fave two summers ago that was restaged last season.
Later hits include Me Happy (co-written with Amy Lee Lavoie) and The Particulars, both of which dealt with sensitive, unusual and often darkly comic subjects.
He tackles surprising material again in Tick, whose 10-year-old title character leads a revolution against city council when she decides its cost-saving measures – specifically, closing her local library… (sound familiar?) – amount to a war on kids.
Headlining the cast is the wonderful Jessica Moss, with Jajube Mandiela – who appeared in SIA – directing.
From July 5 at the George Ignatieff.
