Metropolis Factory

METROPOLIS FACTORY 50 Edwin, 416-629-4297, metropolisfactory.com

Toronto has a thing for oversized industrial relics, and one of the city’s best salvaged finds might be the Metropolis Factory building itself. The soaring 7,000-square-foot space in the Junction Triangle near the intersection of the West Toronto Railpath and Dupont was once the power plant for a neighbouring rubber factory. Today the 1930s structure is full of giant pieces that don’t fit in Metropolis Living’s flagship storefront over at Dundas and Pacific.

Some of the those big buys include floor lamps fashioned from the top portion of streetlights, their mammoth metal forms polished to shiny silver. There’s also marquee signage galore and over-scale cabinets perfect for stashing your collection of more diminutive factory finds.

Metropolis Factory picks: Medical cabinets found everywhere from the Ukraine to Rochester, $2,400 to $10,000 the Titus shelving unit is created in house by Marco Pecota for his Pekota Design line, which also includes a new collection of powder-coated patio furniture, $495 to $1,750 lights made from reclaimed chicken feeders range from $195 to $350.

Look for: The Savage Sales Event June 29, when select items are half-price.

Hours: Monday to Friday 10 am to 6 pm.
