Michael Douglas’s mortality

Michael Douglas has both a producing and acting Oscar, but he’s still interested in small projects that make him take some risks.

At a round table at the Park Hyatt, he talked about the passion he has for his new film Solitary Man. In it he plays Ben, a man turning 60 who, in response to hearing that he might have a heart condition, proceeds to trash his business and his relationships, all the while pursuing women decades younger than he is.

When asked about whether he ever has experienced a similar life crisis, Douglas replied, “Well, I have a wife who’s 25 years younger than I am so, no.” He also suggested that, since his legendary dad Kirk was still alive, he wasn’t necessarily thinking about his own mortality just yet.

The most surprising thing about the conversation was his reference to a future project in which he’ll be playing Liberace. I actually had to interrupt him to make sure he wasn’t kidding. He assured me he’s serious.[rssbreak]
