MOODYMANN

MOODYMANN Silence In The Secret Garden (Peacefrog) Rating: NNN Rating: NNN

Moodymann, aka Kenny Dixon Jr., is back with his first album in three years, and long-time fans of the legendary Detroit house producer won’t be disappointed. If you’ve been buying his singles you’ll recognize some of the sounds and ideas. He’s still recycling samples and elements, and People is really just an abbreviated version of his well-loved remix of Carl Craig’s People Make The World Go Round (which was really more of a cover). Is this as good as 1997’s stunning and influential A Silent Introduction? Not quite, but it’s still an original and emotional house album with its feet firmly planted in the ideals of experimentation.
