Much a do about dog doo

I’ve been ruminating lately on the etiquette of doggie do.

Last Monday, on returning home from work, I dutifully went out to put my recently emptied garbage bin back where it belongs. Much to my surprise, I looked down to see that not one but two dog owners had seen fit to put their dog poop in my bin.

Ok, it was properly gift-wrapped in a tied-up plastic bag but something about the incident really pissed me off.

I could have put any number of sharp objects in that bin which would have ripped those bags, causing the do-do to be smeared all over my otherwise pristine bin.

I’m not alone in this, either. A 2008 study concluded that failure to pick up after one’s dog is an uncivil behaviour that provoked the most anger in urban dwellers.

I wonder about dog owners. They treat their pets like humans, as if canines are more more important than kids who are terrified of them (see the controversy over what T.O. parks are for). So maybe they do think their dog dung is a precious commodity and a proper gift. I’ve talked to a few dog owners who think there’s actually nothing wrong with putting a their dog’s poop in someone else’s bin – as long as it’s in a plastic bag.

I think they’re way off base. If you have a dog, you’re responsible for feeding them and keeping their crap off our lawns and in your own garbage bins.

Or am I having an inappropriate shit fit?[rssbreak]
