appalled by the indiscriminate
attacks on protestors by police in Quebec City, NDP MP Svend Robinson called for a federal inquiry in Parliament earlier this week.
Robinson says that on Saturday afternoon outside the security fence he witnessed RCMP officers move in on non-violent demonstrators who sat singing in the street, demanding they disperse. Before the crowd could comply, the RCMP declared them a danger and, without any provocation, started firing tear gas into the crowd.
Robinson vows to continue to voice his demand and expects other groups, such as Common Frontiers, to do so as well. If the federal government continues to reject the requests, says Robinson, “We may have to consider some other type of inquiry.”
