As part of this month’s New Constellations Digital Residency, we’re featuring some of the artists and mentors joining the nation(s)wide tour running from November 23 to December 20, 2017.
What’s your favourite song at the moment?
Mary by Big Thief.
How do you celebrate a great performance?
Kombucha and hanging out after the show.
The best place in Toronto to enjoy winter weather is …
In bed.
What’s the last performance/concert you saw?
Eric Landry, he’s a legend and it was nothing short of ceremony.
Name one other New Constellations artist you think audiences should see during this nationwide tour.
Describe the best gig you’ve ever played.
My first main gig, The Basement Review show at the Opera House for MMIW2S three years ago. The first show I sang with my sister, and the lineup was stellar.
New Constellations will bring together a lineup of Canada’s Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists. Why is that an important feature of this tour to you?
I see this tour as a collaboration between artists from many nations, Cree, Anishinaabe, Canada, etc., all sharing our creations on the same stage. As an Anishinaabe artist, this tour first and foremost sees me as just that, an artist, not a sub-genre or “other” category.
What’s coming up for you next?
I’ll be stepping into the recording studio early Jan with my producer James Bunton and band to record my second album She Fell From The Sky.
