*NSYNC NEasy, Silly Scrawler

Rating: NNNNN

It’s tough maintaining a pin-up demeanour with your hair twisted in cling wrap, your head under a dryer and a manicurist at your side applying topcoat. Unless you’re *NSYNC singer Joey Fatone.

In town to shoot a film with fellow *NSYNC heartthrob Lance Bass, the goateed New Yorker was all over town last week — the Junos, various label parties and getting a complicated dye job at tony Yorkville salon Oz last Thursday.

While the shampoo girls buzzed and the manicurist pushed back the celebrity cuticle, our man flipped though mags and gabbed on his cell. Handlers at Fatone’s label, Zomba, insist he’s a down-to-earth guy and that any primping was undoubtedly required for the film. But Fatone didn’t look especially uncomfortable in the hot seat. Blame all those million-dollar video shoots.

Speaking of bizarre sightings, how exactly does Toronto Sun columnist and perennial fashion risk Joe Warmington keep his gig? In last Thursday’s edition of the tabloid, the so-called “Night Scrawler” reported that “a packed house at the NOW Lounge on Church Street (cheered) for Toronto’s own Likewater.”

While the 15 or so of us gathered thought the duo was OK, none of us recalls cheering. That didn’t stop the Night Scrawler from predicting that the band’s Jen Claveau “may very well be Canada’s next big singing star.” Odd. Most music critics need to hear a complete set before making such grand pronouncements. Warmington walked after about four minutes. And our photographers almost never approach the stage and motion for the performers to move closer together — mid-song — in order to improve the shot, as the Scrawler did. Guess we’ve been doing it wrong all this time….
