Following the ordeal that was Sleep’s legendary Dopesmoker LP, the rhythm section of Al Cisneros and Chris Haikus found God and, presumably, did some heavy meditating. The result is Om, and, as the name suggests, they deliver a doomier, riffier rendition of La Monte Young’s Eternal Music. While aesthetically similar to Dopesmoker, Om finds Cisneros trading his gruff incantations to weedian transcendence for mellow calls to flight that are more similar to Dead Meadow than to Sleep. The results are hypnotic.
