A woman is facing charges after allegedly pretending to be a nurse at several retirement homes and long-term care homes across the Greater Toronto Area.

Durham Regional Police made an arrest on March 8 in the investigation of a woman who was applying for jobs as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with fake credentials.

“The suspect had documentation from various governing bodies which she claimed were hers. The suspect is not registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario,” police said in a news release on Thursday.

The suspect was employed as a RPN by at least four retirement and long-term care facilities since 2021. The names of these facilities are not yet known, police said.

Aaliyah Elizabeth Sampat, 25, of Oshawa has been charged with 11 offences, including four counts of fraud over $5,000, two counts of utter forged documents, personation with intent, and possessing identity information with inference of fraud.

Investigators have released a photo of Sampat to prevent any further victims.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact police at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5279 or Durham Regional Crime Stoppers, at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Police say tipsters may be eligible for a $2,000 cash reward.
