She displays the kind of vulnerability that Aretha Franklin embodied on Spirit In The Dark, an emotional intensity that passes your brain and delves deep into your soul. Impossible Dream isn’t for the faint of heart, but for those who just love swimming in delicious self-pity, this album is like therapy. Her Deep South gospel on Standing can make you get down on your knees and confess your sins. With a little help from pals like Emmylou Harris on backing vocals, this album’s production is as pure and raw as these women’s voices.
