Prince

Rating: NN

The upside of Prince’s lengthy creative dry spell is that expectations for an astonishing album have now been lowered to the point where many fans would gladly take one funky dance joint and consider it a blessing. He comes close to delivering that one party-starter with the thumping title track but quickly loses the groove and reverts to sappy ballads. Worse yet are his embarrassingly hokey attempts at social commentary – which come with biblical references – like Cinnamon Girl, which appears to be a belated response to the 9/11 tragedy. Very 4gettable.
