Lauren Schreiber

The name of promoter “it” girl Lauren Schreiber’s ongoing concert series sums it up pretty well: No Shame. While she’s not hiring skywriters or accosting nighttime bar crowds with a megaphone to get the word out, the 24-year-old Montreal native has spent the better part of the last two years tirelessly and unapologetically booking show after show for an impressively diverse list of bands, from Woodhands to Saffron Sect.

But it’s her philosophy to putting on shows – and not worrying about the fickle, du jour tastes of local scensters – that really sets her apart. A No Shame show doesn’t seem to have many set rules, and often Schreiber goes out of her way to find what she considers the best local up-and-comers, like Ruby Coast (a band she’s begun to manage), as well as others she feels have been overlooked, regardless of genre.

In terms of having a no-strings, genuine appreciation for independent music in this city, Schreiber and her No Shame series stand alone.
