From Quentin Tarantino’s perspective, if you make movies by swiping scenes from your favourite films, it must make perfect sense to assemble their soundtracks from songs used in other films. So it couldn’t have been too much trouble putting together the music for his Grindhouse hommage, Death Proof. Pino Donaggio’s Salty And Jack was lifted from Brian De Palma’s Blow Out, they found Jack Nitzche’s The Last Race in Bert I. Gordon’s drive-in classic Village Of The Giants, grabbed Mink DeVille’s It’s So Easy from William Friedkin’s Cruising and scooped Ennio Morricone’s Paranoia Prima from Dario Argento’s Il Gatto A Nove Code, etc, etc. Our boy’s so slick, he probably thought no one would even notice. Uh-huh.
