Sanagan’s is the latest to expand east

East-end Toronto is blowing up in a big way, with everything from bombastic new game-changers (hello, Broadview Hotel), scrappy new independent projects (Wong’s Ice Cream, Pinkerton’s and Farside, to name just a few) setting up shop here.

Additionally, a few well-established local restaurants, including La Cubana and Apiecalypse Now, have begun fording the wild waterways of the Don River into the uncharted wilderness beyond.*

The latest in that last category is Sanagan’s Meat Locker, the beloved Kensington butchery that supplies some of T.O.’s top restaurants (and countless home cooks). In a blog post, Peter Sanagan says he signed a lease last month on a spot next to Lazy Daisy’s Cafe at Gerrard East and Coxwell, close to where the Sanagan’s founder lived in the early 2000s.

“We’re going to be fixing it up and hopefully open in the first few months of next year,” Sanagan writes. “It’s going to be a smaller version of what we do now, something similar to the old shop [a much more compact previous location, also situated in Kensington].

“Small, manageable, and super-meaty. I’ll be posting updates as we progress, and I hope to be seeing a lot of new faces in the next year.”
