Rapper/singer JID joins 2021 Manifesto Festival lineup

Rapper/singer JID

Toronto music festival Manifesto is returning for a 15th year – and rapper/singer JID is headlining.

The East Atlanta MC is signed to J. Cole’s Dreamville record label, and has been gaining profile with recent guest features on records by pop stars Dua Lipa and Doja Cat.

He’s a late-breaking addition to the headlining lineup, which also includes Toronto R&B singer/songwriter and recent Juno winner Savannah Ré and Montreal-born, Toronto-based rapper/producer/singer Notifi.

Admission for the show, which takes place on September 11 at CityView Drive-In, is now free.

Two more Toronto acts, singer/rapper Jahkoy and rising rapper Charmaine, are billed as openers. The lineup also includes Raz Fresco, Zakisha Brown, Jäjé, Vaness, Asheley Turner, DJ Killa Kells and DJ 4Korners, among others.

Gates open at 3 pm. The event will also be livestreamed.

The concert will be preceded by a two-day summit on September 9-10 that includes a talk by Miami-based production/songwriting duo Cool & Dre, who’ve worked with Lil Wayne, Juvenile, Fat Joe, Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Queen Latifah and many other big names in American hip-hop and R&B.

The summit will also feature sessions by dub poet and performer d’bi young anitafrika, 2oolman from electronic duo the Halluci Nation, filmmaker and human rights activist Donisha Prendergast and American hip-hop historian and photographer Ernie Paniccioli.

Get more info about the sessions, some of which will be virtual, via the Manifesto Festival website.

Update (September 8, 2021): This story was updated with new headliner and admission info.
