What do you get when you come across a Marvel superhero and a pro basketball player? A celebrity basketball game for the ages.

Canadian actor Simu Liu and 2019 NBA champion Jeremy Lin have joined forces to host the 2023 Canadian Chinese Youth Athletic Association (CCYAA) Celeb Classic basketball game this weekend.

This marks the third edition of the game after being held in 2022 and 2019. The goal of the event is a fundraiser for the CCYAA and the Jeremy Lin Foundation.

“I’m really excited to be back in my hometown of Toronto alongside my friend, Jeremy, to showcase what this amazing city has to offer and to support two amazing non-profit groups, The Jeremy Lin Foundation and the CCYAA,” Liu said on CCYAA’s website.

Similar to previous years, the event will feature over 20 celebrities, athletes and personalities from the North American Asian community.

Celebrities in attendance this year include Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (Netflix’s Never Have I Ever), Andrew Phung (Run the Burbs and Kim’s Convenience), Young Mazino (Netflix’s Beef), Olivia Cheng (HBO’s Warrior), Julie Kim (standup comedian), Tisha Alyn (professional golfer), Nigel Ng (Standup Comedian) and more.

Tickets are available now on the CCYAA website. All proceeds go to the CCYAA and the Jeremy Lin Foundation.

The CCYAA is a non-profit organization that promotes physical activity, leadership and serves as a community for youths in the Greater Toronto Area.

The Jeremy Lin Foundation is a non-profit that supports low income Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPI) and cross-racial youth through comprehensive programs that address barriers such as food insecurity, mental health, parent education and youth empowerment.

The game is on Saturday, July 8 at the University of Toronto’s Goldring Centre, located at 100 Devonshire Place.

Tip off begins at 6 p.m.
