Habitat for Humanity ReStore, 29 Bermondsey, 416-755-7353 1120 Caledonia, 416-783-0686. www.habitat.org.

Rating: NNNNN

Pair the one-of-a kind thrill of vintage shopping with the satisfaction of finding a hardware bargain and you’ve got the Habitat for Humanity ReStore . This international organization builds affordable housing for low-income families with corporately donated, salvaged or recycled materials. The stuff they don’t use for construction they sell at their chain of ReStore retail outlets, and then those profits go back full circle into new construction. Toronto’s first ReStore location opened on Bermondsey in 2000 and since then has been the sourcing headquarters for thrift-conscious renovators and detail-oriented decorators. From private post-reno donations to scratch-and-dent castoffs to bulk corporate end-of-lines, ReStore’s stock is ever-changing, which is why dedicated reno enthusiasts have become obsessed – making daily appearances to try to find a claw-foot tub or score an antique entry door with just the right dimensions. The high of the find makes the trek into industrial territory well worth the effort. ReStore’s picks : Assorted paint, $6 per gallon toilets starting at $40 sinks starting at $20.

Look for : Porcelain claw-foot tubs, Old World fireplace mantles, antique hardware and retro light fixtures.

Hours : Monday to Saturday 10 am to 6 pm, Thursday 10 am to 9 pm.
