SUICIDE GIRLS

Since it was one of the pioneers in the pin-up/indie porn revival on the Net, it’s no surprise that the Suicide Girls website is immensely popular. In the simplest terms, it’s just a cool site boasting “punk rock and goth girls” who attempt to pay homage to pin-up greats like Bettie Page.

But just because you have a cool website doesn’t mean that whatever you’re doing is gonna translate well into other media. The First Tour documents the travels of several of the website’s models across the U.S. to perform burlesque for their rowdy fans.

The feature is confusedly broken up into segments profiling the models, their backstage antics and live performances. After the first hour, you want to burst out, “What the hell is the point of all this?!” Who needs to watch a bunch of drunken girls with tattoos flash their boobs and swear a lot? Isn’t that what Girls Gone Wild is for?

As for the so-called burlesque show, after the first few routines it becomes painfully clear that the girls have no idea what they’re doing or how to dance, thus resorting to lame tactics like spitting beer at the audience.

In theory the idea of these young, empowered models strutting their stuff is pretty rad, but the result is akin to a half-assed high-school talent show with nudity.
