The Killers

Rating: NNN

If you’ve been feeling like the 80s revival hasn’t fully hit the mainstream – you know, really dug its claws in with a massive chart-scorching single, then the Killers might be just what you’ve been waiting for. They’ve got clear shots at the Time/Life collection of The Hits Of The Single Digits. Mr. Brightside has all the twinkly, emotive heart of John Hughes movies and still manages to represent the very now screamo aesthetic. Somebody Told Me takes a page out of Interpol’s melancholy rhythm book while scribbling notes from Blur’s Girls & Boys and Vegas dance club house in the margins. The Killers have neither the lyrical acuteness of Interpol, the freshness of Franz Ferdinand nor the Strokes’ NYC bluster, but they ain’t crap.
