Led by trumpeter, santur player, vocalist, and composer Amir ElSaffar, the Two Rivers Ensemble was purpose-built to explore the juncture between jazz and music of the Middle East, especially the Iraqi maqam. This evening presents music from the 2015 album Crisis, largely inspired by ElSaffar’s first-hand experience of the Arab Spring protests and of working with Syrian musicians struggling with the impact of civil war. Don’t miss this powerful and visceral performance!
