The Woodchopper’s Association

Rating: NNN

With a rotating lineup that includes Dale Morningstar, Sook-Yin Lee, Andrew Whiteman, Eric Chenaux and members of GUH, Dave Clark’s WoodChopper’s Association is perhaps Toronto’s most inclusive supergroup. No sound is taboo.

This double-disc package captures the full clan in all its spontaneous music glory. Split between sessions at the Gas Station and live happenings around town, the set tries to capture the madness that is a WCA live performance with varying degrees of success. Improvisation on this scale is best seen in person, and two discs of blurting and squealing may be too much for even the biggest booster. That said, you’re unlikely to hear a bigger or more open-minded band in your life. Clark and 50 of his closest musical friends host Ted’s Wrecking Yard tonight (Thursday, July 6).
